The City Administrator oversees the day to day operation of the City working under the policies and direction of the Mayor and City Council. In addition to overseeing operations, the City Administrator insures City Council policies and rules are enacted, develops the preliminary budget, assists in development of policies and ordinances, sets City Council committee and general meeting agendas, and represents the City as authorized by the Mayor and City Council.
Greg Sund, who started on October 7, 2008 is the first person hired to serve as Spearfish’s City Administrator. Prior to being hired by the city of Spearfish, Sund served as the City Administrator for the city of Dickinson, North Dakota for 12 ½ years. Sund is a graduate of Black Hills State University and has a Master of Public Administration degree from the University of South Dakota.
