Police Dispatch

City of Spearfish Police Department is accepting applications for Police Dispatch.

Responsibilities:  Will perform, train, and oversee duties as they relate to enforcement and emergency calls received within the Dispatch Center from the public.   

Requirements:  Will receive and record incoming enforcement and emergency-related calls from the public, both in person and on the telephone.  Candidate will refer callers and/or transmit or relay orders to the appropriate police patrol, fire, Civil Defense, ambulance, Public Works personnel, county authorities, or other related agencies. 

Requirements:  Ability to type 35 wpm, ability to be bonded, High school diploma or GED certificate, possession of a valid SD driver’s license, and ability to obtain State required training certificates within one year of hiring date.  Position will require availability to work all shifts, weekends and holidays. Residency required within a distance from the City of Spearfish adequate to meet a 30 minute response time requirement.

Police Department Administrative Assistant

The City of Spearfish Police Department is accepting applications for a full-time Administrative Assistant. 

Responsibilities:  This position performs administrative, writing, record-keeping, public relations, correspondence, and clerical work for the Police Department and its various divisions and serve as direct assistant to the Chief of Police. 

Requirements:  Graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associates’ Degree in a field of business and at least two (2) years’ experience in varied office work or a  high school diploma or GED Certificate and a minimum of four (4) years’ experience in varied office work.  Excellent public relation skills.  Possession of a valid SD driver’s license with clean driving history.

Building/Development Administrative Assistant

The City of Spearfish Building/Development Department is accepting applications for an Administrative Assistant. 

Responsibilities:  This position provides the “front line” duties supporting the building and development activities of the Planning and Zoning, Building and Engineering Departments.  Will perform administrative and technical duties which include customer service, written reports, record-keeping, public relations, correspondence, and clerical work. 

Requirements:  Graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associates’ Degree in a related field and at least two (2) years’ experience in varied office work or a  high school diploma or GED Certificate and a minimum of four (4) years’ experience in varied office work.  Excellent public relation skills.  Preference will be given to candidates with basic construction knowledge; general knowledge of building codes, zoning and subdivision ordinance, subdivision platting, and state statutes.  Possession of a valid SD driver’s license with clean driving history.

Public Works Laborer

City of Spearfish is accepting applications for a full-time Public Works Laborer who will be assigned to Parks.

Responsibilities:  Will perform tasks of manual labor to complete assigned snow removal and lawn and grounds care duties.

Facility Maintenance Superintendent

Responsibilities:  City of Spearfish is accepting applications for a full-time Facility Maintenance Superintendent who will organize, monitor, and supervise facility maintenance operations for all buildings and grounds owned by the City of Spearfish.  The Superintendent will perform a variety of technical tasks relative to facility maintenance and provide technical assistance to the facility staff.

Requirements:  Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in an applicable field.  Five years’ experience with facility maintenance activities, three of which were in a lead supervisory capacity.  Excellent supervision, training, and performance evaluations skills.  Knowledge of construction and project management principles.  Excellent communication skills to include both written and oral.  Equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the job.  Possession of a valid South Dakota driver’s license and clean driving history.  High school diploma or possession of a GED certificate. Residency required within a distance from the City of Spearfish adequate to meet a thirty (30) minute response time requirement.

Motor Pool Mechanic I or II (Full and Part-time Positions Available)

The City of Spearfish is accepting applications for a Full and Part-time Motor Pool Mechanic I or II.  (Part-time position will be 16-19 hours per week)

Responsibilities:  This position will perform maintenance, repair, overhaul, rebuilding, replacement, or manufacturing jobs as needed on all assigned City-owned vehicles and equipment.    

Requirements:  Candidate will be required to have/obtain a valid SD CDL Class 1A driving certificate with a clean driving history, high school diploma or GED certificate. Residency required within a distance from the City of Spearfish adequate to meet a thirty (30) minute response time requirement.   

Mechanic I – Graduation from two-year college or technical school with an Associate’s degree in operation and repair of vehicles and equipment or (3) three years related experience which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the position. 

Mechanic II – Graduation from two-year college or technical school with an Associate’s degree in operation and repair of vehicles and equipment and (3) three years related experience; or (5) five years of education and experience.
