The Spearfish Volunteer Fire
Department, founded in 1881, is a completely volunteer organization located in
the northern Black Hills of Western South Dakota. The department's mission
is to preserve life and property in the fire protection district and
mutual aid area. The department also promotes fire safety and knowledge
through fire safety education in the local schools and community.
The
Spearfish Volunteer Fire Department protects a community of approximately 9,000
residents and covers an area from the Wyoming-South Dakota border east to mile
marker 17 and from the Redwater River south to the National Forest boundary.
