SD Stories Book Discussions

Creekside Elementary School fourth grade classes received a book discussion grant from the SD Humanities Council.  The students will be reading and discussing the vignettes in the four books within the South Dakota Stories Series: "One-Room Country School", "Country Congregations", "On the Homefront", and "Life on the Farm and Ranch". The public is invited to join in these discussions which will be held Monday, January 30 through Thursday, February 2 from 1:30 to 2:30 each day at Creekside Elementary.

The books have short passages (a page or less) and are available at the school prior to and during the discussions.

In addition the SD Humanities Council is putting together another book for this series and is looking for submissions.   For more information, click here.

E-Reader Assistance & Demonstrations

Still wondering how to make that e-reader work, how to check out free library books on it, or just curious what all the fuss is about?  Join us Thursday, February 9th from
3-6 pm for an afternoon of e-reader demonstrations and assistance.

Bring in your device (and your laptop if you have one) and we will help you get setup.  If you don't have one yet, but are considering purchasing a device, we will have a variety
of options on hand so that you can see how they differ.

Taxes preparation

For those preparing their own tax returns, the library offers tax forms in the lobby of City Hall, as well as books on tax preparation.  Additional forms and information, including Free File, can be found at www.irs.gov. Please remember that librarians aren't qualified to offer tax preparation assistance or advice.

BHSU offers two sites for the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program.  Tax preparation is performed by accounting students who are in the process of completing their education.  They will prepare simple returns for eligible individuals with a gross income of less than $50,000.

The library VITA site is by appointment only on limited Saturdays.  Please call 642-1330 or stop in the library to make an appointment.

The BHSU VITA site is in Room 207 of Meier Hall.  They will be hosting walk-ins only at this location on selected Thursdays from 3:30pm-6:30pm.  The walk-in dates will be February 16th & 23th, March 15th, 22nd, & 29th and April 12th.
