ANIMAL CONTROLThe City of Spearfish Animal Control Division is maintained by the Police Department with one officer. Duties consist of enforcing city animal ordinances and parking regulations. Up until the year 2001 the ACO only performed these tasks. Now the ACO is a certified Law Enforcement Officer with all the powers of arrest, just like one of the officers from the Patrol Division. Along with traditional duties the ACO assists the Patrol Division whenever they are need of additional man power. Lost or Missing Pets If you have a lost or missing pet, please call Animal Control as soon as possible at 642-1300 to report a description of your pet and for assistance in locating your pet. If the Animal Control Officer is not available to answer your call, please give the information to the dispatcher and or phone operator so they may relay the description to the Animal Control Officer. Licensing Your Pet Remember to license your dog/cat yearly at the Spearfish Police Department if you reside within the city limits of Spearfish. City pet tags are required per ordinance and can be obtained by producing proof of rabies vaccination by a licensed veterinarian to the Police Administration Office between the hours of 8 am - 4 PM Monday - Friday. Cost is $5.00 if spayed or neutered, $10.00 if not spayed or neutered. ANIMAL SHELTER
The Spearfish Animal Shelter, located at 324 Industrial Drive (click for Google Map), is operated by the Western Hills Humane Society. The shelter is open Tuesday – Friday from 10:00AM – 5:00PM and Saturday from 10:00AM – 5:00PM.
