BHSU Officer
In January 1999, the Spearfish Police Department and Black Hills State University, in a cooperative effort, created a University Law Enforcement position. The position was filled by Officer Keith Smith, who worked in the patrol division prior to the new assignment. Officer Smith remains a Spearfish Police Officer assigned to the BHSU campus. He has regular patrol duties along with several duties that the campus has him assigned to.

The creation of campus law enforcement was a proactive decision. The goal of University Law Enforcement is to maintain the safety of the growing BHSU student body and staff. |
The University Police Sub-Station is located in the Physical Plant behind Woodburn Hall. |
