Police Dispatch

City of Spearfish Police Department is accepting applications for Police Dispatch.

Responsibilities:  Will perform, train, and oversee duties as they relate to enforcement and emergency calls received within the Dispatch Center from the public.   

Requirements:  Will receive and record incoming enforcement and emergency-related calls from the public, both in person and on the telephone.  Candidate will refer callers and/or transmit or relay orders to the appropriate police patrol, fire, Civil Defense, ambulance, Public Works personnel, county authorities, or other related agencies. 

Requirements:  Ability to type 35 wpm, ability to be bonded, High school diploma or GED certificate, possession of a valid SD driver’s license, and ability to obtain State required training certificates within one year of hiring date.  Position will require availability to work all shifts, weekends and holidays. Residency required within a distance from the City of Spearfish adequate to meet a 30 minute response time requirement.

Police Department Administrative Assistant

The City of Spearfish Police Department is accepting applications for a full-time Administrative Assistant. 

Responsibilities:  This position performs administrative, writing, record-keeping, public relations, correspondence, and clerical work for the Police Department and its various divisions and serve as direct assistant to the Chief of Police. 

Requirements:  Graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associates’ Degree in a field of business and at least two (2) years’ experience in varied office work or a  high school diploma or GED Certificate and a minimum of four (4) years’ experience in varied office work.  Excellent public relation skills.  Possession of a valid SD driver’s license with clean driving history.
