Our Mission Statement

Spearfish Parks Recreation and Forestry Department will strive to provide safe, healthy and enjoyable park and recreation facilities to improve the quality of life for all the residents of our community.

Our Staff

The Spearfish Parks, Recreation, and Forestry Department has 5 full-time employees and 23 seasonal employees working in:

  • Campground
  • Cemetery operations
  • Park maintenance
  • Sports fields

About Our Parks

The Spearfish Parks, Recreation, and Forestry Department maintains a total of 182 acres of parkland encompassing:

  • 16 developed parks
  • 6 pocket parks
  • 5 sports field areas

Additional Properties

In addition, the Department oversees:

The department maintains 1,284 acres of undeveloped park property for a total of 1,466 acres of parkland. The Department also maintains approximately 8 miles of Recreation Path and a 4,800 square foot Skate Park.

Within the developed areas, the staff maintains a total of:

  • 23 irrigation systems
  • 15 restroom facilities
    •  The restroom located at the City Park is open year-round
  • 13 picnic shelter facilities
  • 2 public display fountains
  • 2 shop facilities
  • 2 shower facilities
