Trail Head & Ongoing Trail Maintenance

Thanks to an exceptional volunteer group of trail riders, trail maintenance has been occurring on the trail system on a regular basis to make the trails sustainable as well as assisting the city with the installation of trail directional signs. This volunteer group has given countless hours of service to the park.

Lighting the Tunnel

In 2016 the Leadership Spearfish Class of 2016 took on a project to light the tunnel that leads from the Nevada Street Trailhead parking lot under the interstate and onto Lookout Mountain. This was a cooperative project with support from and partnerships with:

• Black Hills Energy
• Butte Electric Cooperative
• City of Spearfish
• South Dakota Department of Transportation
• Spearfish Area Community Foundation
