Public forum about Public Access AED Community Project

Tuesday, September 19, 2023

The Spearfish Community Foundation is hosting a public informational forum from 5:30-6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 19th at the Spearfish High School auditorium as part of the launch for the Public Access AED Units Community Project, specifically the public access AED towers. Representatives from Advocates from Health and Avive Solutions will be speaking and demonstrating how the towers and AED devices work. Mayor John Senden will also make a few comments regarding the partnership and how important this project is for the Spearfish community. Learn more about: - Why the Spearfish Community Foundation chose this project - How the towers work - Where the towers will be located - Who has helped fund the project - How to sponsor a tower - And much more!

The Spearfish Community Foundation has spearheaded and helped fund a new life-saving project. Along with the generous support of more than a dozen initial sponsors, 11 AED (automated external defibrillator) towers will soon be operating throughout the city as the project is completed.

Arrival of the Avive brand AEDs will be the week of September 18, and a public meeting will be held at the Spearfish High School auditorium on Tuesday, September 19 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Members of the Spearfish Community Foundation board will be on hand, along with Rich Feneis and Mike Wittmann of Avive to explain how the network of AED towers will work to save lives.

When someone is experiencing a sudden cardiac arrest, response time is critical, and having an easy-to-use, highly-technical medical device readily available can make all of the difference in the survival of the patient. The award-winning and FDA-approved Avive brand of AEDs provides that and so much more. Avive devices have an easy-to-use touch screen; talk the rescuer through what to do in English or Spanish; have an easy toggle button between child or adult rescue mode; sync with the other towers in the system; provide GPS tracking to help emergency responders locate the patient; remote monitoring for battery charge life and more.

Sponsoring partners of this public access AED project include: Spearfish School District; city of Spearfish; First Interstate Bank; Good Shepard Clinic; Spearfish Volunteer Firefighters Foundation; Zonta Club of Spearfish, BankWest; Lions Club of Spearfish; Black Hills Federal Credit Union; Black Hills Pioneer; Pioneer Bank & Trust; F.L. Clarkson Foundation; Dylan and Nicole Clarkson along with others still coming on board for phase two.

AED Towers will be placed in the following Spearfish locations:

  1. Spearfish City Campground
  2. Spearfish City Park
  3. Spartan Park on State St
  4. Brady Park
  5. Downtown Public Restrooms
