Part-Time Public Works/Parks Laborer   

Responsibilities:  The Public Works/Parks Laborer will work for both Parks and Public Works departments doing manual laborer duties to include snow removal, lawn and grounds care, facility maintenance, assisting with utility field and street/airport operations as assigned.  Position will normally work two days a week (M-F) with a flexible schedule.    

Requirements:  Experience with lawn and grounds care, snow removal, and minor maintenance.  Possession or ability to obtain a valid south Dakota Class 1B Commercial Driver’s License within 90 days of hire.  Insurable driving history.  High school diploma or GED equivalent.  Residency required within a distance from the City of Spearfish adequate to meet a 30 minute response time.

Seasonal Snow Plow Operators

Responsibilities:  Seasonal snow plow operators are responsible for responding in a timely manner to snow events and assisting in completing effective and safe snow and ice removal on city streets during inclement weather. 

Requirements:  Ability to operate heavy equipment.  Operators will have the ability and willingness to learn snow removal procedures and establish effective working relationships and use good judgement, initiative, and resourcefulness when dealing with the public and employees.  Operators must have a Class B Commercial Driver’s License with an insurable driving history.  Two operators will work a minimum of 10 hours per week and no more than 40 hours (to include response for snow removal operations) and four operators will be limited to hours for snow removal operations only.  Seasonal positions run from November to April.

Full-Time Assistant City Planner
  

Responsibilities:  The Assistant City Planner will perform professional work related to community planning and development.  The primary duties are to analyze requests from citizens, developers, and business owners wishing to improve their property and to assist the general public with a variety of planning, zoning, and subdivision questions. 
 
Requirements:  Bachelor’s degree in community development, city planning, landscape architecture, or geography.  Three years minimum experience in municipal, county, governmental agency preferred.  Candidate must have a valid driver’s license and an insurable driving history.
